Hyderabad: Acting Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court Justice Sujoy Paul on Monday noted that the Constitution was crafted with noble intent, similar to the Ganga River at Gangotri. As the river flows down, it gets polluted. The story of the Constitution is also the same, he said. Justice Paul cautioned citizens to be vigilant against ‘impurities’.
Justice Paul’s call to treat constitutional vigilance as a collective civic duty reframes democracy as an active, participatory process rather than a passive inheritance. Addressing the Dr B.R. Ambedkar birth anniversary celebrations conducted by the Telangana High Court Advocates Association, Justice Paul called upon the public to zealously guard the values enshrined in the Constitution.
Justice Paul said that it was not only the duty of the judiciary or the political executive to guard the constitutional provisions and to monitor their implementation. Citing the Preamble of the Constitution, which clearly says, “We, the people of India”, Justice Paul said that it was the duty of every citizen to keep vigilance and to guard the Indian Constitution.
Judges of the High Court and Bar Association executive members A. Jagan, Vizarath Ali and Indrasen Reddy and other members and advocates participated.
