The Telangana government will establish a special campus – spread over 200 acres near the international airport on the outskirts of Hyderabad – to attract and encourage companies involved in development of artificial intelligence and disruptive innovation, IT and industries minister D Sridhar Babu has told The Indian Express.
Babu said the upcoming AI city will further solidify the state’s position in India’s deep tech talent ecosystem.
Stating that the government wants to change the face of the state and not just restrict it to being an IT hub, the minister said, “We want other sectors too to look at Hyderabad and Telangana as a destination for setting up their businesses. We want hospitality, insurance, pharma and other sectors to set up their Global Capability Centres (GCC) in the state, and we are creating the infrastructure and ecosystem for that.”
Babu said Marriott International’s first-ever GCC will be set up in Hyderabad. “This marks the hospitality sector’s debut in the GCC space in India, highlighting Hyderabad’s growing global significance,” said Babu.
“I am urging the Marriott leadership team to explore opportunities in opening hotels and establishing tech accelerator centres in Tier-2 cities across Telangana, which would further bolster the state’s economic growth and decentralse development. There is so much tech talent available in our Tier-2 cities that we want to encourage corporates and companies wanting to hire, and recruitment agencies to go to the towns and seek out talented youth,’’ Babu said.
Telangana contributes 12 per cent of India’s GCCs, with Hyderabad emerging as a leading destination due to its 1 million-GCC matured tech workforce and advanced infrastructure. “The state’s business-friendly policies and talent pool make it a preferred location for global giants across sectors,” Babu said.
The Telangana government is also looking at capturing the fast-emerging vehicle battery market, with Amara Raja Group setting up the Rs 9,500 crores lithium-ion battery in Diviti Palli in Mahbubnagar district. “The EV market has a huge potential and we are looking to attract investments from companies which manufacture batteries for two-wheelers and four-wheelers. That is also our priority,” Babu said.
