New govt job notifications in Telangana only after SC sub-categorisation report is submitted | Hyderabad News

Telangana will issue new government job notifications only after a report on the sub-categorisation of Scheduled Castes in the state is submitted, officials said.

Following the Supreme Court’s verdict on August 1 that allowed the sub-categorisation of Scheduled Castes for the purpose of reservation, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had said his state would be the first to implement it. He has since constituted a one-man commission with a retired High Court judge to examine the various SCs and submit a report within 60 days. He has also directed officials to complete a social and economic status survey of Backward Castes.

Local body elections that are due to be held in the state will also only be held after SC sub-categorisation and and Backward Castes survey reports are submitted to the government, officials said.

Telangana minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Chief Minister has directed officials to prepare for the implementation of the sub-categorisation of SCs in accordance with the Supreme Court’s verdict.

CM Revanth Reddy on Wednesday conducted a review of the implementation of the sub-categorisation of SCs and the survey on Backward Castes at the state secretariat. Members of the Cabinet Sub-Committee for this matter – ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Damodar Rajanarasimha, Ponnam Prabhakar, and D Anasuya briefed the CM about the representations received by them and regarding SC sub-categorisation in Punjab and Tamil Naduas well as the steps being taken in Haryana.

The CM made it clear that new job notifications would be issued based on the SC sub-categorisation report, officials said.

According to officials, the CM also ordered for arrangements to be made for the visit of the commission preparing the report to all 10 districts in the state to receive appeals and complaints at the field level.

Regarding the Backward Castes survey, officials briefed the CM about the procedures followed in Bihar, Karnataka and other states that have conducted such an exercise.

The CM said the state Planning Department is entrusted with the responsibility to create a special mechanism for the conduct of the survey, as was requested by BC Commission Chairman G Niranjan.

Officials were directed to complete the socio-economic survey within 60 days and submit the report by December 9.

Local body elections will be held immediately after the completion of the survey, the CM said.

Ministers in the Revanth Reddy government have said the state would implement the reservations for Madigas and other SC sub-castes in job notifications issued henceforth.

Madigas are the largest among the 59 sub-castes in Telangana, followed by the Malas. According to unofficial estimates of the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, SCs make up around 19 per cent of the state’s population. According to the Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti, the SC population in the state is 54.32 lakh, of which Madigas make up 32.22 lakh while Malas account for 15.27 lakh.
