Amaravati awaits Dec project launch

Vijayawada: The state govt, which has already commenced preliminary works in the capital city, is optimistic about initiating the major projects of Amaravati by December.
The authorities at the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) and Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC) are working to bring the projects to fruition.

Amaravati awaits Dec project launch

CRDA has engaged experts from Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) to assess structural integrity of the buildings that have been left idle for the past five years, in order to resume the construction works.
The CRDA has also initiated a special drive to recruit additional personnel to manage all the works concurrently. With the World Bank and Asian Development Bank (ADB) nearly agreeing to provide financial assistance for the capital city projects, the state govt aims to complete the documentation and field-level works within the next three months.
“It will require an additional three to four months to commence the works in the capital city. Our preliminary estimates indicate that the cost of the projects will be approximately ₹60,000 crore for the completion of the proposed projects. We intend to finish all the projects within a span of four years,” said P Narayana, the minister of municipal administration and urban development.
He said that all the previously finalized tenders will be terminated, and fresh tenders will be invited. Although previous contractors expressed their willingness to undertake works, they sought to revise the project costs considering the inflation and escalation of material costs.
Taking the feedback into account, the state govt instructed the CRDA to prepare revised estimates for every work to facilitate the invitation of fresh tenders. This approach would also prevent criticism that the govt had favoured only a select few agencies. All the major players in the construction sector, such as Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Shapoorji Pallonji, Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC), and Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL), have expressed keen interest in collaborating with the state govt on various projects.
