Gaddar Film Awards: emphasis on need for fairness and objectivity in selection process

The Telangana Government, which launched the Gaddar Telangana Film Awards to honour excellence in cinema, had its first jury meeting on Tuesday. The meeting was chaired by actress Jayasudha.

Telangana Film Development Corporation (TFDC) chairman Dil Raju addressed the jury and highlighted the need for fairness and objectivity in the selection process. He said that the awards, being revived after a gap of 14 years, have received an unprecedented response – a scale not witnessed even during the days of united Andhra Pradesh.

He added that the awards aim to bring national-level recognition to the Telugu film industry and expressed confidence in the jury, which includes experienced professionals appointed by the government.

Ms. Jayasudha acknowledged the responsibility placed on her by the government and assured that the selection process would be handled with dedication and sincerity.

TFDC Managing Director S. Harish said that a total of 1,248 nominations have been received for the Gaddar Awards. Of these, 1,172 are in individual categories, while the remaining 76 fall under feature films, children’s films, debut films, documentaries and short films.

The screening of entries will commence from April 21. The jury also discussed the framework for the evaluation process.
