The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), from its managing director to senior officials and to the local lineman, swung into action on Tuesday to identify consumers resorting to illegal drawing of water using motors.
As part of the campaign on Tuesday, the Board along with its vigilance teams seized 64 motors and penalised 84 consumers for fixing motors to household pipelines to draw more water at high pressure. A maximum of 25 motors were seized, and consumers penalised in SR Nagar division.
The special drive to curb illegal use of motors is to prevent water wastage and particularly ensure equitable distribution of water in areas with complaints of low-pressure water supply due to extensive use of motors.
Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy was part of the inspections at Kakatiya Hills in Madhapur, where the teams seized motors. “Using a motor illegally to draw water at high pressure is an offence. While some are using these motors, others are suffering with low pressure and supply. Consumers were penalised and motors seized in the first instance, but cases will be registered if it is repeated,” he said.
Mr. Reddy also added that anyone suspecting illegal motor use in their colony can report the matter by dialling 155313 for immediate resolution.
