Hyderabad: A local court in Nalgonda district has sentenced a 29-year-old agricultural labourer Bachanboina Pittala Mahesh to 20 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for attacking a woman with acid in 2018. After the verdict, the police sent him to Nalgonda prison.
The Additional District Sessions Court Judge cum SC, ST Court Judge N. Roja Ramani held Mahesh guilty for the offence committed under Sections 307 (Attempt to murder), 326A (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by the use of acid or similar substances) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) accordingly convicted him under section 235(2) CrPc.
Mahesh was a resident of Dhamera village in Nampally mandal in the district.
The court sentenced Mahesh to undergo RI for 10 years and to pay a fine of Rs.1,000 for the offence under Section 307 of IPC and in default of payment of fine amount he must undergo simple imprisonment for two months.
Mahesh was also sentenced to undergo RI for 10 years and to pay a fine of Rs.1000 for the offence under Section 326A of IPC and in default of payment of fine amount, he should suffer simple imprisonment for two months. Both the sentences would run concurrently.
Devarakonda Additional Superintendent of Police P. Mounika said the accused came to the victim’s house and dragged her to the nearby fields where he attacked her with acid after she refused to accept his request to maintain relationship with him.
The woman deserted her husband, a resident of Devarakonda village and staying alone at her parent’s house in Dhamera village. After registering a case, the police arrested Mahesh and remanded him to judicial custody. A charge-sheet was filed in 2019.
