Hyderabad: A killer VIP number plate appears to be the much sought-after status symbol for companies and individual vehicle owners in Hyderabad. Cashing-in on this craze for personalized number plates, the Telangana Regional Transport Authority (RTA) at its Manikonda office raised an impressive Rs 52.6 lakh through a recent auction, on Tuesday.
Several high-value numbers fetched substantial amounts during the registration number auctions, RTA officials reported. Among the top bids, the highest was for the number plate “TG 07 R 9999,” which was lapped–up for a staggering Rs 12,49,999 by Congruent Developers.
However, the auction was not just about one big winner. Some of the other high-end bids for fancy number plates were TG 07 AA 0009, which was auctioned for Rs 8,50,000 and claimed by Rudra Infrastructures Pvt Limited while the Fuji Software Solutions spent about Rs 4, 77, 000 to covet the fancy number ‘TG 07 AA 0001.
According to RTC officials, the demand for personalised registration numbers has continued to grow, with car owners expressing a variety of preferences. As the popularity of fancy numbers continues to soar, the transport department anticipates a sustained stream of interest and revenue from future registration number auctions.
