TDP Govt Urged To Appoint Industry Veteran As AP Film Corporation Chief

A leading Andhra-based film producer and supporter of the TDP has appealed to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to carefully consider the appointment of the new Chairman for the Andhra Pradesh State Film, Television &Theatre Development Corporation (APSFTVTDC). He emphasized the importance of selecting a well-respected industry veteran who can act as a vital link between major film personalities, trade bodies, and workers, rather than making a hasty decision.

“Veterans like Adi Seshagiri Rao (brother of the late superstar Krishna), Murali Mohan, or other well-regarded figures would be ideal choices for the position,” he suggested. He criticized the previous YSRCP government’s appointment of actor Posani Krishna Murali, saying it failed to inspire confidence within the Telugu film industry or encourage its movement into Andhra Pradesh.

Industry sources suggest that several names are being discussed for the position, with A. M. Ratnam—the Chennai-based producer of Pawan Kalyan’s high-budget film Hari Hara Veera Mallu—is emerging as a frontrunner. While acknowledging Ratnam’s credentials, the producer raised concerns about his base outside the state.

“We need someone who is fully committed to Andhra Pradesh—a hands-on leader who can work closely with the government, secure land for infrastructure, and drive the development of dubbing, recording, and VFX studios and ensure subsidies for small budget movies,” he said.

He cited the example of legends like DVS Raju, who played a key role in shifting the Telugu film industry from Chennai to Hyderabad decades ago, transforming it into a thriving hub with world-class facilities in Film Nagar and other parts of Hyderabad. “We now need a visionary who can replicate that success in Andhra Pradesh and establish a strong film ecosystem here,” he emphasized.

He also called on Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Cinematography Minister Kandula Durgesh to carefully evaluate the decision. “Just as the Telangana government appointed veteran producer Dil Raju, we hope AP will also find a capable and influential leader who can truly represent the interests of the Telugu film fraternity and help in seamless movement of Telugu filmdom to AP,” he concluded.
