Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said on Wednesday that the Telangana government’s clean and green energy push was drawing significant national and international investment.
The state government on Wednesday signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 29,000 crore with two private renewable energy companies. The projects are part of the state government’s larger goal to produce 40,000 megawatts (MW) of green energy by 2035 — 20,000 MW by 2030 and another 20,000 MW by 2035.
Speaking at an MoU signing event at the Telangana Institute of Rural Development in Rajendranagar, Bhatti Vikramarka said that the state’s recently launched new Clean and Green Energy Policy has attracted great interest from investors and the government aims to make Telangana a major player in green energy by supporting investors and fast-tracking projects.
The minister recalled the MoUs signed at Davos by Telangana officials, where Sun Petro pledged an investment of Rs 20,000 crore for a 3,400 MW pumped storage power project, and Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd committed Rs 7,500 crore for a 1,500 MW project. Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for both projects are currently being prepared, with work expected to begin soon.
GPRS Arya signed an MoU with TG REDCO to invest Rs 2,000 crore in setting up compressed bio-gas projects across 15 districts. These projects, using paddy straw as feedstock, are expected to provide financial benefits to farmers, especially given the state’s large-scale paddy cultivation.
He assured that the government would provide all necessary support to companies investing in green energy. He urged investors to prepare action plans and implementation calendars to bring their projects online within set deadlines.
With the backing of a pro-environment and investment-friendly policy framework, Telangana is positioning itself as a leader in clean and green energy generation, paving the way for sustainable growth and energy security in the coming decades.
The state government in the recent budget announced Indira Giri Jalavikasam scheme, which will provide solar-powered pump sets to tribal farmers cultivating podu lands. With a budget of Rs 12,600 crore allocated over the next four years, this initiative will benefit 2.1 lakh tribal farmers and promote sustainable agriculture in tribal areas.
Bhatti Vikramarka directed officials to finalise modalities for implementing this scheme at the earliest.
