Hyderabad:A car fatally ran over an unidentified man, believed to be around 55-60 years old, near the Kokapet toll plaza on the ORR at about 11.30 am on Thursday. The victim was walking towards Patancheru from the Telangana Police Academy (TGPA) side.
Police said the pedestrian suddenly emerged from the median and came in front of the car. The driver was unable to stop the car in time. Police have registered a case and shifted the body to the Osmania General Hospital. Efforts are on to establish the identity of the deceased.
MTech Student Ends Life After Losing in Betting
Hyderabad:A first year MTech student from JNTU-H died by suicide allegedly after suffering monetary losses while betting online, at his residence in Attapur at around 7 pm on Wednesday.
According to Attapur inspector N. Nageswar Rao said the victim, Pavan, residing at a rented apartment in Attapur with two of his friends, was involved in online betting for more than a year.
The incident came to light after the deceased’s father K. Pedda Narsimhulu, a resident of Gadwal, lodged a complaint with the police.
On Wednesday, the complainant received a phone call from his nephew, Srikanth, informing him of his Pavan’s suicide. In his complaint, Narsimhulu stated that he had transferred `98,200 to his son’s bank account after he told him that he had incurred monetary losses.
“Pavan had sold his phone, a high-end bike, and funds from his family’s agriculture business to pay his debts,” the police said.
A case was registered and further investigation is underway. Pavan’s body was shifted to the Osmania mortuary for postmortem examination.
Woman Kills Two Sons, Dies by Suicide
Hyderabad:A 30-year-woman allegedly killed her two sons and later died by suicide, at her residence in Balajinagar layout in Jeedimetla on Thursday. Jeedimetla sub-inspector Prem Sagar identified the woman as Teja, 30. Her sons were aged 11 and eight years old.
While the 11-year-old died on the spot, the eight-year-old died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
“We got to know that she had some family disputes and minor differences with her husband,” said Jeedimetla Inspector G. Mallesh. A case would be registered in this regard after the woman’s parents reach the city from Khammam, said Prem Sagar.
“We are not basing the complaint on the husband’s statement,” he added. Police said her husband worked at a pharmacy company. The incident came to light after a neighbour informed the police.
3 women found with ‘peacock head’
Hyderabad:Three tribal women were reportedly found selling animal parts, including what was believed to be a peacock’s head, and black ibis remains, near Jummerat Bazaar. Shahinayatgunj police said on Thursday. Police were acting on a complaint by former forest officer U. Giridhar Gopal.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Giridhar said, “I found the women selling a peacock’s head, four black ibis skulls, eight legs, a considerable quantity of porcupine quills and some fake tiger parts—all for a few thousand rupees.”
Forest officials and police jointly seized the material and took the women into custody for questioning. The seized items and the women were later handed over to the forest department for further investigation. Giridhar said, “This case needed to be reported to create fear among those involved in such activities. The police cooperated with me fully.”
When contacted, forest range officer Vijay Kumar denied the claim that the seized items included a peacock’s head. “We have verified the materials and found them to be fake. No FIRs were filed, and the three women were released,” he stated.

Police recover decomposed body
Hyderabad: The decomposed body of Bonkuri Yakub, 55, a daily wage labourer, was found at a residence in Navodayanagar, after neighbours alerted the Kushaiguda police about a foul smell on Thursday. Police said Yakub lived alone in the house near the local community hall, and the body was found next to his bed. Sub-inspector Srinivas stated that Yakub had likely died two to three days earlier. Police began investigations.
Step-daughter, 12,raped, man held
Hyderabad:The Banjara Hills police arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly raping his minor step-daughter at their residence in Banjara Hills. According to investigation officer Md Yaseen Ali, the incident came to light after the 12-year-old informed her mother about the assault.
The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
Police said that during the survivor’s mother’s pregnancy, he sneaked into the minor’s room and allegedly attempted to sexually assault her while she was asleep. The minor endured the assault for two months.
A few days back, she informed her mother about the incident. A case was registered against the accused on Tuesday under the BNS and the Pocso Act. He was produced before a court which remanded him to judicial custody on Wednesday.
3 juveniles sentenced to community service
Hyderabad:The Fifth Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) in Nampally on Thursday ordered community service for three juveniles in connection with a 2024 case involving the kidnapping and repeated sexual assault of a minor girl. The juveniles were found guilty under the IPC, the Pocso Act and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The incident took place in January 2024 when the 15-year-old victim girl, belonging to the SC community, was deceitfully taken from her home by her friend. The friend falsely informed the victim’s father that another friend had been in an accident. Instead of going to the hospital, the victim was taken elsewhere and later met the juvenile (CCL-1).
During the investigation, it was revealed that the juvenile, whom the victim knew from school, repeatedly sexually assaulted her. Further investigation revealed that two other juveniles supported the assault.
While two juveniles were ordered to perform two years of community service at the special home in Gajularamaram, every fourth week on Tuesday and Wednesday starting from April 29, the third juvenile perform community service at the Nimboliadda observation home for Girls, every fourth week on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Girl dies by suicide
Nalgonda:A 17-year-old girl died by suicide in Mahalaxmi Apartments in Kotarmur under Armoor police station limits on Wednesday night.
The deceased was a student at a polytechnic college living in Kotarmur. According to police, Neeta had been suffering from severe stomach pain and allegedly took the extreme step after being unable to bear the discomfort.
The incident occurred while the family was visiting her uncle. She was immediately shifted to the Government Hospital in Armoor, where doctors declared her brought dead. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
