Visakhapatnam: In a wake of the recent explosions explosions at firecracker units in parts of the state, the department of disaster response and fire service will come up with an outline to create a ‘fireworks cluster’ in each district to put a premium on safe practices.
The idea came up following the recent deaths due to explosion in a fireworks unit (Vijayalaxmi Ganesh Fireworks) near Kailasapatnam of Kotauratla mandal in Anakapalle district on April 13.
Pratap Madireddy, director general of disaster response and fire services department, and with his staff visited the accident spot at Kailasapatnam. He asked the staff to study the reasons for the mishap and come up with suggestions to prevent such incidents.
The officials observed Anakapalle, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Kakinada, East Godavari and Nellore districts in the state were known for manufacturing firecrackers.
A majority of the fireworks makers are reportedly not following the standard protocol for making fireworks, thus, leading to mishaps and air-pollution.
“There is a need to set up clusters of fireworks in five to six districts in the state by allocating land for the clusters. The cluster of fireworks units will come up in those districts where crackers will be made conforming to all guidelines,” he said.
