Police crack school water poisoning case, arrest accused in Adilabad district

A day after the shocking incident of poisoning of water at the mid-day meal kitchen of the Mandal Parishad Primary School in Dharampuri village of Adilabad district by miscreants came to the fore, the Ichoda police have arrested accused Soyam Kishtu of Gonduguda village on Wednesday.

A major tragedy was averted on Tuesday after the alert school staff noticed pesticide mixed with water and sprayed on utensils at the school kitchen, the door lock of which was broken, on Tuesday morning, sources said.

The shocking incident sparked wide condemnation from the parents of nearly 30 students of the State-run primary school.

According to the police, the accused gained entry into the kitchen on Monday night after breaking the lock. Preliminary investigation revealed that he allegedly sprayed pesticide on the cooking utensils before fleeing.

Sources said that he was embroiled in family disputes and frustrated over his strained relations with relatives. The exact motive behind his dastardly act is yet to be ascertained.

Following a complaint by the school headmistress, the Ichoda police registered a case and launched a detailed investigation.

The Police Booked Soyam Kishtu Under Sections 329 (4), 324 (6), 331 (8) and 332 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
