Vijayawada: In a tragic road accident near Nandigama of NTR district on Thursday night, two pedestrians were killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle near Anasagaram on National Highway No. 16. The incident occurred when the victims were walking towards Gunadala Mary Matha church as part of a pilgrimage.
According to YVVL Naidu, inspector of Nandigama, the deceased were identified as Pasumarthi Bhaskar Rao (48) and Rudrapogu Venkateswarlu (45), both residents of Vedadri village in Jaggayyapeta mandal. The duo started their journey on foot from Vedadri on Thursday evening after completing a Christian religious ritual.
The tragic accident took place near the Anasagaram flyover, where an unknown speeding vehicle rammed into them and fled the scene without stopping. The impact was so severe that both victims died on the spot, with their bodies found dismembered and scattered.
Nandigama police reached the spot shortly after receiving information and shifted the bodies to Nandigama govt hospital for post-mortem. A case was registered, and an investigation is underway. Inspector Naidu stated that the police have gathered clues about the vehicle involved and are actively searching for the driver responsible for the hit-and-run.
