With Easter Sunday coming this weekend, all but two Big 12 Conference baseball series start a day earlier than usual and end on Saturday.

The Texas Tech baseball team plays Arizona State in a three-game series at 8:30 p.m. CDT Thursday, 9 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. The Red Raiders (11-21, 7-8 in the Big 12) are in eighth place among 14 teams in the conference standings, one game behind Cincinnati and one ahead of Baylor, the teams they played the past two weekends.

The Sun Devils (23-14, 9-6) are two games out of first place, tied for fifth with Kansas. Arizona State won its first three conference series against TCU, Kansas and Utah and lost two of three the past two weekends to Arizona and Cincinnati.

Each team is halfway through the 30-game Big 12 schedule, the only conference games lost being two between West Virginia and Oklahoma State on opening weekend that were canceled on account of wildfires in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

At the end of the regular season, the top 12 teams advance to the Big 12 tournament May 21-24 at Globe Life Field in Arlington. It’ll be a single-elimination format with seeds 5 through 12 playing first-round games and seeds 1 through 4 having first-round byes.

For the Red Raiders, Mac Heuer is in his usual spot at the front of the rotation for the Arizona State series. Tyler Boudreau, ineffective in four conference starts and having not pitched in last weekend’s Baylor series, is back in the rotation for Friday’s game at Arizona State. Zane Petty is back in his usual spot as the No. 3 starter after starting the middle game last weekend.

Tech coach Tim Tadlock said this week that third baseman T.J. Pompey will miss the rest of the season with an apparent wrist injury. High-leverage relief pitcher Parker Hutyra, whose last game appearance came on March 22, will remain out two more weeks. Tadlock has previously said Hutyra has been dealing with arm soreness.
