Hyderabad: The govt railway police in Secunderabad investigating the case of a woman jumping from a moving MMTS train to escape an alleged sexual assault attempt, said that they have so far found no evidence to support her claims.
Police have now sent a report to the legal team with the findings seeking advice on how to proceed.
“The case is still under investigation,” a police official associated with it said, denying rumours about the victim admitting to lodging a false complaint and the police filing a closure report in the court. “There is no change in her version from the beginning,” said the official.
On March 22, a 23-year-old woman jumped off a MMTS train near Alwal after an unknown person allegedly tried to rape her. The incident occurred when she was returning to her hostel near Medchal after repairing her mobile phone. The victim suffered injuries to her face and hands in the fall and underwent treatment at a corporate hospital in Secunderabad. She was discharged recently.
However, after analysing over 200 CCTVs at Secunderabad railway station — from where she boarded the train for Medchal — and outside the Alwal railway station, along with examining several suspects involved in similar crimes in the past on railway premises and trains, police have ruled out the involvement of any of the suspects.
According to the police, combing of more than 10 villages in the surroundings of Medchal also led them nowhere as they could not find any suspect with the features and clues shared by the woman in her complaint.
“Multiple teams from the govt railway police, Railway Protection Force, and the Cyberabad police took up a joint probe, verifying technical, physical, and other aspects. But no corroborating evidence has come up so far,” an official associated with the investigation told TOI.
“The legal opinion is awaited. Based on it and with the court’s permission, further action will be decided,” the official added.
