Telangana seeks JICA aid for Hyderabad Metro phase 2, Musi rejuvenation projects | Hyderabad News


The TelanganaRising delegation, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, met the Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) top management in Tokyo Thursday to seek financial support for flagship urban projects, including the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 2, River Musi rejuvenation, and Radial Roads connecting Outer Ring Road and Regional Ring Roads.

According to an official statement issued from Tokyo, the chief minister, accompanied by senior officials of the state government, met JICA Senior Vice President Shohei Hara and other senior managers. Citing the long-standing relationship between JICA and the Telangana government, Hara requested Reddy to pursue the projects with the Government of India for JICA’s support, the statement added.

Reddy gave them a detailed overview of the state’s investor-friendly policies, the attractiveness of Hyderabad as a global investment destination, and large-scale infrastructure projects being taken up in the city and its surroundings.

The state government is keen on JICA support for the 48 per cent loan component of the metro rail project, which is about Rs 11,693 crore, Reddy informed the JICA team. He added that the phase 2 project proposal, with an investment of Rs 24,269 crore as a joint venture project of the Government of India and the state government, was already under active consideration of the central government. Reddy said the state government strictly followed the Indian government’s foreign debt funding norms.

Explaining his vision for Hyderabad city to be developed on a par with global cities like New York and Tokyo, the chief minister urged JICA to consider funding the Musi rejuvenation project and the new radial roads as well.

As part of the TelanganaRising delegation, Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary, Industries & IT; V Seshadri, Principal Secretary to the chief minister; Metro Rail Managing Director N V S Reddy; Sarfraz Ahmed, Commissioner, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority; B Ajith Reddy, Secretary to tthe chief minister, and other senior officers participated in the discussions.
