Greenko project in Kurnool is a sustainable energy model, says Union Minister

Union Minister for Consumer Affairs and Renewable Energy Prahlad Joshi has said that that the Narendra Modi government’s vibrant economic policies are playing a crucial role in uplifting the poor and downtrodden sections in the country.

Addressing the media after inspecting the Greenko’s Integrated Renewable Energy Storage Project (IRESP) at Pinnapuram of Atmakur mandal in Kurnool district on Friday, he said India is emerging as a powerful economy, ranking fifth globally in terms of infrastructure and development.

After an interaction with the project officials, the Union Minister conducted an aerial visit of the project site.

“The Central government’s vision has taken the country to new heights. A decade ago, over 18,700 villages had no power supply. Now, every household has power supply. The poor are benefiting from initiatives such as PM Surya Ghar scheme,” he said.

“The Greenko project offers innovative energy solutions, including recycling water for power generation. This plant holds the right potential to operate effectively for the next six decades. The project is be a model in sustainable energy,” Mr. Joshi said.

He said that the project was powered to generate 4,000 MW of solar power, 1,000 MW of wind energy, and 1,680 MW of pumped storage hydro power. It is involved in green hydrogen and green ammonia projects.

Mr. Joshi highlighted the role of the State and Central governments in grounding such large-scale renewable plants across the country, stressing the importance of sustaining India’s climate and energy security objectives.

Greenko Group CEO Anil Chalamalasetty informed the Union Minister about their efforts to mitigate the carbon emissions and strengthen the grid reliability.

He said that the project was envisaged to prevent 3.3 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

The officials said that the total outlay of the Pinnapuram project stood at USD 4.2 billion, which included USD 1.2 billion for pumped storage and USD 3 billion for solar and wind segments.

The company is focussing on developing a national cloud energy storage platform of 100 GWh capacity.

Nandyal MP Baireddy Shabari, Chikkaballapur (Karnataka) MP G. Sudhakar Reddy, senior officials of the Revenue Depetment accompanied the Union Minister.
