Hygiene, Sanitation Lapses Found at Several Eateries During GHMC Food Safety Wing Raids

Hyderabad: Inspections carried out by the GHMC food safety wing have revealed multiple hygiene and sanitation lapses at food establishments across the city.

The GHMC deployed its ‘Food Safety on Wheels’ testing unit in Malakpet to raise public awareness and assess food quality at local outlets. Targeted inspections were conducted in markets and commercial kitchens, it said in a statement.

In the Monda Market area, officials examined mango traders and checked for compliance with food handling and storage standards, particularly given the seasonal spike in fruit sales. At Begum Bazaar, inspections were held at three trading units.

In Banjara Hills, a cluster of food establishments came under scrutiny, including the canteen at a hospital as well as an eatery at Mehdipatnam.

Across these locations, food safety officers observed several deficiencies in cleanliness, food handling practices, and general sanitation. Food samples were collected from the premises for laboratory analysis under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSS Act).

Officials have lifted food samples for laboratory testing and are preparing to issue notices to several businesses found violating food safety norms.
