State Cancer Institute inaugurated in Kurnool

Minister for Health Satya Kumar Yadav on Saturday (April 19) inaugurated the State Cancer Institute, Kurnool, at Government General Hospital here.

The Minister, along with Minister for Industries and Commerce T.G. Bharath, also inaugurated the Lineral Oxinerator, CT simulator, operation theatre complex and medical oncology wards in the hospital. Mr. Satya Kumar said the hospital would be a “sanjeevani” (life line) for cancer patients. He said the Centre sanctioned the hospital for the convenience of cancer patients from the Rayalaseema region so that the people need not go to far-off places for treatment.

He said the foundation for the 200-bed hospital, planned with State-Centre collaboration at a cost of ₹120 crore, was laid in 2019, but the YSRCP government failed to construct it over its five-year term, he said. “The NDA government built the hospital with modern facilities. We have also strengthened the surgical, medical, radiology and oncology wings of the hospital,’‘ he said. Mr. Satya Kumar said all basic facilities have been provided in the hospital and the required doctors and medical staff will also be recruited soon.

Later, Mr. Satya Kumar and Mr. Bharath held a meeting with the senior doctors at the Government General Hospital. The doctors told the Minister that they are ensuring that the staff crunch does not affect the medical services to the patients. Doctors told the Minister that they have even started heart transplantation in the hospital and have even prepared a plan for providing drinking water to the patients and their attendants.

The officials said the critical-care block, which is under construction stage, will be made functional soon. They also said the medical college at Adoni will also be made functional from next year.
