Trafficked to Myanmar on fake job offer, rescued city man back home after 7 months | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: A hotel management graduate from city, who was trapped in Myanmar by international cybercrime racketeers running online scams for over seven months, has been finally rescued.
The 31-year-old, who landed at the cybercrime hub of Myawaddy in Aug 2024, was freed by the Myanmar military and handed over to local Indian embassy authorities. He reached Hyderabad via Delhi on Tuesday. Following his complaint against the local agent, one Eknath Goud, who had sent him to Myanmar in the guise of a job in Thailand, a case was registered by the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGSCB) on Thursday.
The man had fallen in the trap while looking for jobs in July 2024 after suffering losses in his food business. He had reached out to friends to get him a job. Goud, who was an acquaintance, made him apply for a fake telecaller job in Thailand promising a monthly salary of Rs 75,000.
“Goud had previously worked in Myanmar-based cyber fraud factories, but he lied to the complainant that he worked in Thailand and asked him to take up a similar job,” said a cyber crime official.
According to police, after four rounds of interviews with employers on Zoom, the victim was selected for a telecaller job and on August 9 he reached Bangkok from Hyderabad by flight.
“Once I landed there, I was taken to Myanmar by boat. People looking like military officials seized my passport and took me to Zing Yuan company at KK3 Park. On my first day, I signed a one-year contract with Zing Yuan. After a month’s training, I realised that the job involved participating in scams,” the complainant said.
KK3 Park is in Myawaddy town on Thailand-Myanmar border, notorious for cyber fraud factories. When he refused to cooperate and asked for his passport, the company manager demanded Rs 5 lakh to return it. As he did not have the money, he was forced to work there.
According to the victim, a Chinese team leader and his Punjabi assistant made him and 32 others carry out crypto investment frauds. They had to create fake profiles using photos of celebrities on Facebook and chat with chosen followers who were later tricked into crypto investment by showing high returns on fake virtual accounts.
Based on his complaint, Goud has been booked under various sections of BNS, IT, and Emigration Act.
“Goud has already been arrested by Karimnagar police in a similar case. We will take him into custody on a production warrant to gather more details,” said a cyber crime cop.
