Hyderabad: The Archeological Survey of India (ASI) has started work to restore a piece of decoration that fell off the Charminar’s southeastern minaret. ASI personnel have put up a scaffold and have wrapped the affected portion with blue plastic.
The piece of plaster, that was not part of the original monument but was added during the time of the Nizams, broke off during heavy rain in the first week of April and fell near the Bhagyalakshmi temple underneath.
The current spell of uncertain weather has affected the pace of work, an ASI official told Deccan Chronicle. “We are waiting for the good weather speed up the works,” the official said.
He said the ASI was using traditional materials including lime, sand, jaggery, myrobalan and gum to repair the plasterwork without disturbing the monument’s original design.
