Two Temples Get Damaged as 300-Yr-Old Banyan Tree Falls Down at Narasimha Swamy Temple in Chinna Bazaar

Hyderabad: A banyan tree, said to be 300 years old, got uprooted and fell on the Hanuman temple and the Narasimha Swamy temple located near Chinna Bazaar in Hussaini Alam. There were no injuries.

The tree was situated in the premises of the 100-year-old Narasimha Swamy temple, and is said to pre-date it by two centuries. The tree damaged the top and slab portions of the temple.

Ram Mohan, a GHMC contractor, said “The tree is more than 300 years old. Since the tree is very big, and it fell on top of the temple, there was no way for us to safely relocate it without damaging the properties around the site. We had to cut it down.”

Ram Mohan added that they had to cut the tree and branches to small pieces to make sure the temple was not further damaged. “Thankfully, no one was near the temple when it fell down”, he added.
