ASI to e-stamp 15 New Inscriptions in Gundaram Forest Area Starting April

Vijayawada: The Archaeological Survey of India’s epigraphy branch would take up estampage of 15 new inscriptions of the Satavahana dynasty from the Gundaram reserve forest area at Peddapalli in Telangana state in the last week of April.

ASI authorities said the Telangana forest department has given it the permission to take up the estampage of new inscriptions.

The inscriptions which are datable to the first century BCE to the first century CE, were done during the reign of the Satavahana prince Kumara Hakusiri, son of Naganika and Satakarni-I. He ruled the region Asmaka, which was one of the 16 Mahajanapadas.

ASI epigraphy director Munirathnam Reddy said, “With cooperation from the forest department, we would to undertake the survey in the reserve forest area for the second time to copy new inscriptions.”
