Saif Ali Khan just announced his next film with Priyadarshan where he plays a blind man in a thriller.

First time blind role. First time working with the director. Sounds like a fresh start? Maybe not. Rumors suggest it’s a remake of the 2016 Malayalam hit Oppam. Haven’t we seen this film already… on YouTube and OTT?

Oppam starring Mohanlal was a super hit — ₹65 crore box office, rave reviews and even dubbed versions in Hindi (Prime Witness) and Telugu (Kanupapa).

In fact it’s so widely available that most of the fans have already seen it. So who exactly is the remake for?

We’ve already seen remakes like Shehzada . And let’s be honest — not every remake can be a Drishyam.

Priyadarshan is a legend. Saif is known for taking edgy roles. So why play it safe? If this turns out to be a frame by frame Oppam remake it’s not innovation — it’s déjà vu.

Mohanlal brought raw intensity and rooted emotions to the original. Can Saif replicate that? Or will it feel like a watered down version with Bollywood sheen?

In the age of OTT everyone is already watching Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films with subtitles.
