El Paso Children’s Hospital high school athlete for April 15-19

Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close at 3 p.m. each Thursday, and the winners will be announced Friday.

Here are this week’s nominees:

• Amberly MarketHanks softball. She was 5 for 7 at the plate with four doubles, a triple, three runs scored, and two RBI in a 14-13, 10-inning win against Americas.
• Miles WestbrookEl Paso High track and field. He qualified for the Class 5A state track and field meet in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters at the Region 1-5A meet in Lubbock.
• Genesis Rubio, San Elizario track and field. She qualified for state in the discus in Class 4A after finishing second with a mark of 125 feet, 11 inches at the Region 1-4A meet. Rubio is the first female and the first thrower in San Elizario to advance to the state meet.
• Miguel ChapaEl Dorado track and field. He won the 400 meters at the Region 1-5A meet with a time of 47.88 seconds and qualified for the state meet.
• Malin ArnoldussenBurges track and field. He finished second in 800 meters at the Region 1-5A meet with a time of 1:55.91 and qualified for the state meet.
• Samantha MartinezParkland softball. Martinez struckout 17 batters in 2-1 win vs. Americas.
• Roman FernizaCanutillo baseball. He gave up just one run and struck out eight batters in a win vs. Burges.
• Danny Torres. Eastwood track and field. Torres qualified for the Class 6A state track and field in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters. He won the 3,200 meters and was third in the 1,600 meters at the Region 1-6A meet.
