Warner Bros. Discovery announced on Tuesday that it has launched an extra member fee in the US for its Max streaming service. Subscribers who choose to share their streaming account can pay $8 a month, but they can only add one person. The extra user can be added to any price plan you’re subscribed to — with or without ads — but the feature excludes subscribers who get Max with a bundle.
Like Netflix and Disney Plus, the extra member fee is optional. It allows the main account holder to pay the fee and invite someone to create an account under their subscription. The extra user gets separate log-in credentials, and if you’ve already been sharing a subscription, you’ll be able to transfer an adult profile from the existing account to the new one. The additional user can only stream on one device under their single profile and must reside in the same country (in this case, it’s the US).
Treated as an add-on, the fee option can be found under your subscription settings.
The company is one of the latest to roll out a password-sharing crackdown, which is meant to decrease the number of streaming households sharing accounts. Customers are urged to get their own subscriptions, pay an extra member fee or be prohibited from accessing streaming accounts if they live in a different location.
Max offers access to original titles such as Hacks, as well as live sports on its B/R Sports tier, HBO content like The Last of Us and The White Lotus and a slew of movies and shows from WBD brands like Cartoon Network, HGTV and Warner Bros. Right now, you can also save money on an annual subscription with this new Max deal.
