My experience with the Mahindra BE6 after a 500km trip

Recently completed a ~500kms trip. I am extremely proud of this vehicle. Its fast, its responsive, its loaded with comfort, its safe and did I say its a beast? A very light-weighted beast. Here’s my experience:

Disclaimer: Weirdly enough, I am one of the few owners with little to no software issues. I say it again like I have before: I am extremely proud of this vehicle. Its fast, its responsive, its loaded with comfort, its safe and did I say its a beast? A very light-weighted beast.

I still don’t have my charger installed, simply because of the DISCOM making me run around but that’s a different thread altogether.

I charged at a Shell Petrol Pump. They had a 120Kw charger that charged by car from 74% to full in about 24 minutes. That was enough for me to go about 200kms with around 66% SOC left for the last leg of 20kms of uphill ghats. It a elevation difference of 1200 meters so you can imagine the steep climb but it handled so easily at times that I had to make sure I was within 40kmph to be safe. My average speed for this leg was 79kmph, which means I was usually cruising at about 90-100 regularly. I also indulged in hitting the top speed at 140kmph on a empty stretch without speed limits. I’ve heard it goes faster in the race mode but I didn’t try it out.

I was on Autoregen throughout the trip. Had instances of vehicles being frustratingly slow or blocking lanes but it was able to respond very easily to the expectation I had.

At one point, the car emergency braked too hard while at 80kmph and almost got rear ended but then let go to avoid that. All of this because there was a guy on a two wheeler who swerved onto the fast lane. My only sadness was that I had a lock up because of this and hoping the tires don’t have a flat spot.

On the downhill on the ghats, I kept the auto regen on and the car simply flowed down on the winding roads very smoothly and as expected. Every hairpin did have a straight incline which did take up the power but I ended up reaching the foothills with +3% recharge. Given that the distance was 20kms and I was traveling at 6.9 kms per kWh, it essentially nullified the energy consumption. (Can’t wait for a BE6 gathering on the hills)

What I’ve learnt is that, there wasn’t really that much of planning needed on these highways however in smaller towns you might want to account for charging especially if you’re staying overnight in a place where there is no EV charging facilities. Secondly, the car and its functions of charging, regen, modes are designed extremely well. Trust the car, it’ll take care of you.

I have a 1100kms round trip coming up which I think I’ll try to be quite liberal on the highways. I just want to enjoy the drive.

Can’t have range anxiety if you don’t have range anxiety

Happy BEing
