Hyderabad: Telangana High Court Advocates Association Tuesday protested the Supreme Court collegium‘s recommendation to transfer two judges from the Telangana high court. The SC had recommended transfer of Justice K Surender and Justice P Sree Sudha o the Madras and Karnataka HCs respectively.
The association’s executive committee convened an extraordinary general body meeting and the members unanimously resolved to seek the rollback of the collegium’s recommendation. The meeting, chaired by the association president A Jagan, expressed serious concern over the judicial transfers affecting the Telangana HC.
Members highlighted that in recent years, several judges have been transferred out of the Telangana HC without equivalent replacements through the same transfer route, resulting in a steady decline in the number of serving judges in the court.
Association’s former president V Raghunath expressed disappointment over the decision, stating that it comes at a time when the Telangana HC was being recognised nationally for its high case disposal rate.
“It is unfortunate that a judge like Justice Surender, who has demonstrated exceptional expertise in criminal law and helped resolve a significant backlog of criminal appeals, is being transferred,” he remarked.
The general body also decided to send a delegation to the Chief Justice of India seeking the withdrawal of the transfer of Justices Surender and Sree Sudha. The advocates body also demanded that all vacant judge posts in Telangana HChigh court be filled without further delay.
