What is the point in having surveillance cameras if they are not useful for investigators to crack cases, asked Justice T. Vinod Kumar of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday.
Hearing a writ petition filed by a citizen whose minor son went missing nearly a year ago and the Raidurg police could not trace him, the judge observed that it appeared the CCTV cameras were there only for record purpose. The petitioner Polavarapu Raju’s counsel informed the HC that his client’s son went missing a year ago but police could not secure any details about the boy’s disappearance.
The government counsel informed the court that notices had been issued to all police stations regarding the whereabouts of the missing person. A report will be filed on the matter after securing all details, he said. The video footage of cameras could not throw up important leads about the case, he added.
What is the point in installing cameras when they are not useful and why huge sums of public money are being spent on them, the judge sought to know. The hearing was adjourned to April 29.
