Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Tuesday alleged that Dalits and farmers were subjected to torture and handcuffing under the previous BRS govt for merely questioning its injustices. In contrast, he said, the Congress govt has emerged as a national role model for farmer welfare and inclusive governance.
Addressing the Rythu Mahotsav and later speaking at a media conference in Nizamabad, Mahesh Goud recalled several incidents during the BRS regime, including farmers being lathi-charged, handcuffed, and some even losing their lives in paddy fields. “The BRS is mistaken if it believes people will forget the deep wounds inflicted on farmers and the party’s support for the Modi govt’s ‘anti-farmer black laws’, which were later withdrawn,” he said.
He further added that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s vision has inspired the state’s caste survey and the historic passing of a 42% quota for Backward Classes in the assembly—an example of the party’s steadfast commitment to social justice.
