Heatwave in Telangana: State records season-high temperatures, triggers orange alert

Hyderabad: Telangana sizzled under an intense heatwave on Tuesday, with Nizamabad’s Kondur recording a scorching 45.3 degrees Celsius — the highest temperature in the state this season, according to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TDPS).
Other districts also saw the mercury rise alarmingly, with Adilabad’s Tamsi and Nirmal’s Buttapur both touching 45.2 degrees Celsius followed by Mancherial at 45 degrees Celsius. At least 12 districts, including Kumuram Bheem, Jagtial, Kamareddy, and Nalgonda, reported maximum temperatures exceeding 44 degrees Celsius triggering an ‘orange’ alert under the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)’s heatwave warning system.
Given the persistent high temperatures, the IMD extended an orange alert across all districts of Telangana until April 26. The alert warns residents to avoid exposure to the sun, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions, especially during peak noon hours.
Meteorologists suggest that the extreme heat is likely to induce atmospheric instability, potentially bringing light to moderate rainfall across some regions after April 26.
T he increase in heat also led to peak power demand of 4,117 MW recorded in GHMC. Power demand was was 3,900 MW on Tuesday.
