Hyderabad: A constable, Sekhar, who was part of the Cyberabad police commissioner’s escort team, along with six others, was arrested by the Moinabad police in a 23 lakh dacoity case. The stolen amount was recovered from the offenders.
On Wednesday afternoon, Sekhar, an Armed Reserve constable, along with six other accused — Ajay, Mobeen, Nabi, Ramchander, Masood, and Imran — allegedly robbed 23 lakh cash from Mohammed Imran, a scrap merchant from Musheerabad, and his associates, Umer Farooq and Sohail Akhtar, natives of Gulbarga in Karnataka, at Qutbuddinguda in Moinabad.
According to police, Md Imran and his associates, who were involved in purchasing construction waste, were lured by Ajay, a native of Uttar Pradesh, and others to come to Hyderabad to demolish a farmhouse in Qutbuddinguda near Moinabad and sell the scrap.
The victim and his associates went to Moinabad to meet the prospective sellers to strike a deal. “Ajay met us near Qutbuddinguda and took us to the farmhouse gate. Soon, six others came on two bikes. Together, Ajay and others forcibly took away our bag containing 23 lakh cash and fled from the spot. We chased them for some distance and managed to find one of their abandoned bikes near Qutbuddinguda,” Md Imran said.
On the complaint of Md Imran, a case was registered against the accused under the Section 310 (2) (dacoity) of the BNS on Wednesday night.
Acting on the complaint, the Moinabad police team and the SOT Rajendranagar sleuths have arrested all the accused on Thursday from Moinabad and recovered the entire stolen cash from their possession, Moinabad Inspector G Pavan Kumar Reddy said.
