Hyderabad: With soaring temperatures and heatwaves, the demand for berths in AC coaches has surged dramatically. In many trains, the waiting list has not only crossed triple digits but reached the ‘regret’ status indicating no further bookings are being accepted. This trend is expected to continue through the second week of May.
Trains from Hyderabad to major destinations such as Delhi, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru, and Chennai are witnessing a massive rush of passengers. In several cases, the AC coach waiting lists have crossed 100–150 passengers.
The onset of summer holidays has further intensified this demand, with many preferring to travel to cooler northern destinations like Shimla and Kullu-Manali, which are typically accessed via Delhi.
In the Dakshin Express, the third AC coach is already showing ‘regret’ status for 23 days from April 23 to May 16 (except on May 13). Similarly, second AC tickets on the Telangana Express are fully booked until May 3. The Sampark Kranti Express, which operates three times a week, has reached ‘regret’ status in both second and third AC classes on April 25, 28, 30 and May 5, 7, and 9.
