The long journey from Mumbai to Hyderabad, spanning over 750 km, could soon be reduced to just three hours, thanks to the Mumbai–Hyderabad High-Speed Rail (MHHSR) project.
This ambitious bullet train initiative promises to drastically change the way people travel between Maharashtra and Telangana, making what was once a long haul into a quick, comfortable ride.
What is the MHHSR Project?
The MHHSR corridor will cover 767 km and connect three major cities: Mumbai, Pune, and Hyderabad. The route includes 11 stations, carefully selected to provide access to both big cities and smaller towns along the way, as per Times Now.
This line is part of India’s ambitious plan announced in 2019 to build six high-speed rail routes across the country. Although construction has not yet started, preliminary work like surveys and studies has been underway since late 2020.
The New Bullet Train: All You Need To Know
The bullet train is designed to operate at speeds of up to 320 km/h, with the potential to reach 350 km/h at its peak. With only 11 stops, the route is designed for high-speed travel, consisting of elevated, underground, and at-grade tracks.
This streamlined approach will ensure that passengers can travel the distance between Mumbai and Hyderabad in approximately three hours, slashing the current 14–16 hour journey by regular trains.
The trains will seat around 750 passengers and use cutting-edge technology, including digital signalling systems and 25 kV AC overhead power supply.
For safety, the trains will have an Urgent Earthquake Detection and Alarm System (UrEDAS) which can automatically brake the train during an earthquake, ensuring passenger protection.

Premium Travel at an Affordable Price
Although the official fare chart is yet to be released, early estimates suggest that the ticket prices will be about 1.5 times the cost of a first-class AC train ticket. This means that passengers can expect a premium experience without a hefty price tag.
