My restored Yamaha RZ350: Fine tuning the bike as I pile on the kms

Have done a little over 300 kms on the bike and have started opening the taps a little further.

BHPian SnS_12 recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

RZ is getting better by the day

Have been facing constant niggles on the RZ but after solving them one by one the RZ keeps getting better as the kms pile on. The throttle grip was slipping again and we went back to the original springs as it was bad fuel quality which was not letting the slides go back to their original position on de acceleration. Post that I noticed a flat spot post 5k rpm and was not sure if it required the U tube and was the reason why it was behaving that way. However, the next time I wanted to start the bike it just wouldn’t idle and with great difficulty rode it to Tony’s place. Upon inspection the pilot jet on the left carb was choked up and it was the epoxy coating that had failed for some reason after all this while. Not sure if it was because of the bad fuel or the ethanol blended fuel but it happened only on the RZ. A solution had to be found for this and that is when I recollected a conversation I had with Sumant for a US made rust coat solution that we could try. Got a good deal on Amazon India and ordered a can which can be used on all my two strokes to protect the tank.

That’s the beauty of two strokes when you are hit with constant niggles but the rewards post that are what makes the journey worth it. Have done a little over 300 kms on the bike and have started opening the taps a little further pushing it up to 5.5k rpm with the speedo little over 85kph. The bike is giving subtle hints on what a beast it can turn into and I am thoroughly enjoying it..Hopefully, I can now get the running in completed asap without any further issues that leads to further downtime..

To be glued back on once again

Time to inspect the carbs to find out what is blocking the fuel supply

The culprit. Could have just fitted a filter and used the bike but being a Virgo I wanted a permanent solution…

So, while we waited for the expensive solution to arrive from Amazon India we got to addressing the other issue. The rear suspension even on the hardest setting was too soft for my liking. Even Eddie mentioned that these suspension were rubbish from factory. But Tony made a bush that was fitted at the bottom and now I can go even harder on the setting and that has made a world of a difference. Rear end now feels more planted than ever and the floating around has disappeared completely.

Another expensive part that was not clicked when it went on the bike. Small things like these make a world of a difference. Also, have now moved to Iridium plugs. So, no more worries of plug fouling due to extended period of bike being stationary.

13k tin can with some top quality stuff

Instructions

Liquid gold in Titanium shade

The tanks being dried after applying it. Needs five days for the product to vapour out completely

Size difference between a 350 tank and a 125 tank

Getting a spare key made as Eddie only had a single original key. Being an odd size needed some extra effort to find and make the right one

Short breakfast ride
