Telangana pioneers sub-national diplomacy through Bharat Summit

Telangana is hosting 350 delegates from over 95 countries, in a sub-national diplomacy that includes senior leaders, ministers, and global think tanks to tackle pressing challenges threatening the common man and the human rights.

The Bharat Summit, scheduled for April 25 to 26 at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre, will feature dynamic discussions on critical topics such as gender justice, countering disinformation, and empowering youth in politics, alongside addressing climate justice, economic equity, and peace in a multipolar world.

The event marks the 70th anniversary of the historic Bandung Conference, which laid the foundation for the Non-Aligned Movement. The conference’s theme is “Delivering Global Justice.”

Earlier, the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, in a video message, said that this was a defining moment for placing everyone at the forefront of the movement for delivering global justice and Telangana was honoured to host the first Bharat Summit in Hyderabad.

By convening such a diverse array of global stakeholders, Telangana is fostering a new architecture for international cooperation, rooted in democracy, pluralism, and justice, according to Mr. Revanth Reddy. This innovative approach emphasises that States can play a pivotal role in shaping global narratives, complementing India’s legacy of leadership in progressive movements, according to him.

The organisers said, “As right-wing forces worldwide undermine constitutional values and marginalised communities, Telangana’s proactive stance offers a counter narrative of inclusivity and good governance.”

“The summit’s focus on institutionalising partnerships with think tanks and harnessing the Indian diaspora ensures that these efforts will have a lasting impact, blending massive domestic development with global engagement. Through this initiative, Telangana not only advances its growth but also sets a powerful example for sub-national entities to contribute to a more equitable and peaceful world.”

Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge will participate in a session in the evening on the opening day, while Waynad MP and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi is scheduled to speak on the second day.
