Telangana Scientist Appointed as New Director of AMPRI, Bhopal

Hyderabad: Dr Thalda Bhaskar, An Alumnus of Csir-ICT and Native of Thurpugudemure in Telangana’s Surapet District, has been appointed director of Csir–advanced materials and propagandas research institute (Csir-ampri), bhopal. His appOOintment was approved by the Prime Minister in his Capacity as President of Csir.

Dr Bhaskar currently serves as chief scientist and heads the Material Resource Efficiency Division at CSIR–Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun. His academic path began at New Government Degree College, Hyderabad, followed by a Master’s in Chemistry from Osmania University and a PhD from CSIR-IICT. He later pursued postdoctoral work and held a faculty position at Okayama University in Japan.

Dr Bhaskar joined CSIR-IIP in 2007 and has held leadership roles both within the institute and in national committees. He has carried out research assignments across India, Japan, Sweden and France. His collaborations include teaching engagements at the Tokyo Institute of Technology and the University of Borås, Sweden. His work focuses on converting waste plastics, lignin and biomass into fuels, chemicals and carbon materials.

One of his projects involved the development of a bio-binder tested on a stretch of NH-6. He has authored over 250 peer-reviewed papers, contributed to 45 book chapters, edited four volumes and filed 17 patents. Stanford University has listed him among the world’s top 2 per cent scientists in the field of energy research from 2022 to 2024.

Dr Bhaskar’s recognitions include the National Award for Technology Innovation from the ministry of chemicals and fertilisers. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Telangana Academy of Sciences and several international scientific bodies.
