Hyderabad: The ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH) has in principle agreed to declare the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (southern portion) as a National Highway, subject to the state government bearing 50 per cent of the land acquisition cost. The cost of construction is pegged at about Rs 13,000 crore, with 50 per cent of the land acquisition cost estimated at Rs 2,230 crore.

In a statement, Union minister G. Kishan Reddy requested early Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPPAC) and Cabinet approval for the project, and the signing of a financial tripartite agreement for the greenfield Regional Express Highway on the northern side of Hyderabad. The total construction cost of the project, including 50 per cent of land acquisition cost, is about Rs 18,772 crore.

To reduce travel time between Hyderabad and Srisailam, the Centre is proposing a four-lane elevated corridor on National Highway-765 from Mannanur in Telangana to bordering areas in Andhra Pradesh. A cable bridge on the Krishna River on NH-167K will be taken up as part of this project. The ministry has approved Rs 4,891 crore worth of highway projects covering 233 km, which includes the cable bridge. The highways ministry urged the state government to expedite forest clearances and submit the detailed project report for the proposed elevated corridor and the other 10 projects.

Union minister Nitin Gadkari and Kishan Reddy will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for multiple developmental projects worth Rs 5,413 crore at Adilabad and Hyderabad on May 5, according to the tentative plan.
