Commanders’ Josh Conerly Jr. Opens Up On ‘Nerve-Wracking’ Draft Experience

The NFL Draft has now come and gone with players landing with 32 NFL teams, but the experience can be a lot to deal with, and for Washington Commanders left tackle Josh Conerly Jr., it was rather intense.

Seen as one of the top tackles in the class, team after team passed over Josh, and it wasn’t until the Commanders, who picked at No. 29, that Conerly Jr. heard his name called.

So for most of the night, Josh had to sit and wait patiently to see if an NFL team would give him a chance, and it was Dan Quinn’s Commanders who eventually did.

And Conerly Jr. has detailed what the experience of the past 24 hours has been like.

“It’s been a lot,” Conerly Jr. said. “I was at home for the draft and stuff, but I mean pretty nerve-wracking like when the time, when that moment happens, but I was with my family so it made me feel really good and being able to share that moment with them.”

Likely coming to be Laremy Tunsil’s understudy, the Oregon stud comes to the nation’s capital to beef up Jayden Daniels’ protection.

Having been sacked 47 times in the regular season (sixth-most), the Commanders clearly felt the need to address the offensive line, and with Tunsil and now Conerly Jr., Jayden gets his blindside protected by a five-time Pro Bowler and a first-round pick.

That’ll do.

But the process of waiting to hear his name called was nerve-wracking for Josh, but now that his NFL dream is realized, he can get to work to become Daniels’ latest protector as the Commanders look to double-down on their success from last year.
