The TGSRTC Retired Officers Welfare Association unanimously elected its new office bearers during its annual meeting held on Sunday. Former executive director (Engineering) M.V. Nagavender Rao was re-elected as president for a fifth consecutive term.
Alongside him, Kumuraiah was elected as vice-president, P. Venkat Reddy as general secretary, G. Sadasiva Rao as joint secretary, and T.V. Ranga Rao as treasurer.
During the Annual General Meeting, Mr.Nagavender Rao handed over a representation to Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and TGSRTC managing director V.C. Sajjanar, outlining several longstanding grievances of retired officers. Among the key issues raised were the abnormal delay in the payment of leave encashment dues, delays in disbursing interest amounts on fixed deposits with the Cooperative Credit Society (CCS), and the continued collection of 50% fare from retired officers for travel in super luxury buses.
The association has also demanded full reimbursement of medical expenses for retired officers and their spouses, on par with benefits provided to government employees. Currently, only up to ₹2 lakh is reimbursed, forcing retirees to bear additional healthcare costs out of pocket. With no pension system in place for TGSRTC retirees unlike government employees, many are struggling to meet rising healthcare expenses in old age.
Responding to the grievances, Minister Prabhakar assured the gathering that all issues would be examined empathetically to provide relief to retired officers.
