Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has asserted that the Congress government viewed the problem of Maoists from a social perspective and does not consider it as a law and order issue.

He made his government’s stand clear on Maoists during a meeting with the members of the peace talks committee on Sunday. The committee appealed to the Chief Minister to take initiative to facilitate a dialogue between the Central government and Maoists. The committee headed by convenor Justice Chandrakumar and comprising Professor Haragopal, Professor Anwar Khan, Durga Prasad, Jampanna and Ravi Chander submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister urging him to convince the Centre for a ceasefire.

The development assumes significance in the light of the intensified search operations in Chhattisgarh, especially the areas abutting Telangana border, in the recent days. Mr. Revanth Reddy recalled that senior Congress leader and former Minister K. Jana Reddy held talks with Maoists in the past and said the government would seek advice and suggestions from him on the issue. The State Cabinet would also discuss about the issue soon and take a decision.
