Kovelamudi Ravindra elected as Guntur Mayor

Kovelamudi Ravindra of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was elected as the seventh Mayor of Guntur on Monday, securing 34 votes against 27 polled by his rival Achchala Venkata Reddy from the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).

The election was conducted under the supervision of Presiding Officer and District Joint Collector A. Bhargava Teja at the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) Council Hall, following directions from the State Election Commission.

The special meeting was attended by ex-officio members including the TDP leaders, Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications and Guntur MP Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, MLC Alapati Rajendra Prasad, MLAs Mohammed Naseer, B. Ramanjaneyulu, Galla Madhavi, YSRCP MLCs Chandragiri Yesurathnam, Lella Appireddy, along with corporators.

Mr. Ravindra’s candidature was proposed by Prathipadu MLA B. Ramanjaneyulu and seconded by 13th Division corporator Sankuri Srinivasa Rao. Mr. Venkata Reddy’s candidature was proposed by MLC Yesurathnam and seconded by 45th Division corporator Yakkaluri Maruthi.

Following the voting, the Presiding Officer declared Mr. Ravindra as the Mayor, presented the certificate of election, and administered the oath of office to him. Mr. Ravindra then formally assumed charge as the Mayor.

He was congratulated by Presiding Officer Bhargava Teja, Municipal Commissioner Puli Srinivasulu, Union Minister of State Chandra Sekhar, MLC Alapati Rajendra Prasad, MLAs B. Ramanjaneyulu, Mohammed Naseer, Galla Madhavi and other corporators.

Additional Commissioner Challa Obulesu, Council Secretary B. Srinivasa Rao, Deputy Commissioners D. Srinivasa Rao, Ch. Srinivas, and Election Superintendent Padmanabha Rao also participated in the proceedings.
