New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to interfere with a Telangana High Court ruling that upheld a State rule requiring proficiency in Telugu for appointment as a Civil Judge.
A two judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising of Justice B R Gavai and Justice A G Masih dismissed the petition filed by one Mohd Shujath Hussain. He argued that the Telangana Judicial Rules, 2023 unfairly excluded Urdu proficiency as a qualification.
He said that in 2017 Urdu was the second official language of the State and submitted that he studied in Urdu medium school and hence the test for Civil Judge should also have an option of Urdu language.
