Hyderabad:Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) on Tuesday informed the Telangana High Court that it had taken steps to not display any advertisement related to betting apps. HMRL also informed the court that it had instructed its concessionaire L&T to remove such ads.
Advocate General A. Sudharshan Reddy, representing the government, assured the High Court that HMRL Rail and its premises were free from advertisements for betting apps. He placed a memo in this regard before a division bench of the High Court which was hearing a PIL complaining of the promotion of betting apps in Metro Rail facilities.
As per the agreement between the HMRL and L&T, particularly Clause 17.5, commercial activities like advertisements vest with L&T. After being informed by GHMC about the betting advertisements being carried within Metro Rail spaces and premises, the HMRL wrote to L&T to get such advertisements removed, the Advocate General submitted . The court adjourned the hearing to after the summer vacation.
