Protect 8-month pregnant woman, child: Telangana HC to officials

Hyderabad: Stating that the foetus also has a right to life, Telangana high court has come to the rescue of a pregnant woman from Hafeezpet, Miyapur. The court directed the women & child welfare department to take her and her two-year-old child into custody, admit them to Gandhi Hospital, and ensure that necessary treatment and care are provided to them. The court also directed police to provide protection to the woman, who is in her eighth month of pregnancy, and her child during the course of treatment.
Justice T Vinod Kumar on Monday gave the directions while dealing with a petition filed by the woman’s parents, alleging that she was harassed physically by her husband. The judge also directed police to ensure that no person, except her husband, was allowed to meet the woman and her child during their stay at the hospital. The matter was posted to April 30 for the women & child welfare department to file its report in the matter.
After the woman’s parents moved the high court seeking relief for her, the court directed the secretary, High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC), to conduct an inquiry. The secretary conducted an inquiry and submitted a report to the high court, stating the woman appeared to be weak, pale, and suffering from severe varicose veins problem and was very anaemic.
“Her child is also appearing very lean and weak, and due to some issues during the initial days, there was ‘zero’ growth till he was nine months,” the report mentioned. After perusing the report, the court issued the directions.
