Andhra Congress chief YS Sharmila alleges being under house arrest in Vijayawada

Andhra Pradesh Congress President YS Sharmila on Wednesday alleged being under house arrest at her residence in Vijayawada. Addressing Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, she questioned the reason behind the restriction on her movement.

In an X Post, she wrote, “Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister garu, Why am I house arrested in my villa in Vijayawada? For what reason? Pls tell the people of AP.” She also tagged Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and the Andhra Pradesh police.

Sharmila further asked if going to her workplace at the PCC office was a crime and wondered what the government feared. “Just going to my workplace- the PCC office @INC_Andhra is a crime now? Why are you trying to curtail our constitutional rights? What is your govt afraid of?” she added.

Earlier, she asked the state government to complete the Polavaram Project in its original capacity, as specified in Section 90 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act of 2014, which makes it a national project.

Sharmila added that the plans to cut the project’s size, and therefore its storage capacity, from 194 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic feet) to 114 TMC were a ‘gross injustice’.

Speaking with ANI, she said, “Be it Jagan Mohan Reddy or Chandrababu Naidu, they are acting in coalition with the BJP, and everybody is scheming to reduce the project size. This is a gross injustice. We demand that Chandrababu Naidu and PM Modi finish the project and execute the project at the original 194 TMC water capacity.”

“Together, we have gathered with the Polavaram Project victims. They have come here to explain to us how injustice is being done to them. 1 lakh 6 thousand families have given up their lands to make the Polavaram Project a reality.”

“After almost 20 years, even 10% of those families have not received any benefits. Rehabilitation packages have been given to fewer than 9,000 families, so many are still waiting for the government. Girijans, from the Girija tribe, have given up their lands,” she added.
