Telangana has officially joined the unified national transport system with the launch of the Parivahan Sarathi portal, enabling residents to access a wide range of vehicle-related services online. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar inaugurated the centralised portal at the RTO office in Secunderabad on Wednesday, April 30.
With this integration, Telangana residents can now apply for learner’s and permanent driving licences, renewals, address changes, and vehicle registrations through a single digital platform. The move replaces the State’s earlier system and brings it in line with 28 other States already using the centralised Parivahan framework under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Ponnam Prabhaakr said, “This initiative will ease the burden on citizens by reducing the need to visit RTOs, cutting paperwork, and increasing transparency through real-time updates and digital access. He noted that the system allows applicants to fill forms, upload documents, book appointment slots, and pay fees online.
Highlighting the urgency behind the implementation, the Minister said, “Though there were delays earlier, after the formation of this government, we took an immediate decision to adopt the portal for better governance and service delivery.”
Telangana Transport Commissioner K. Surendra Mohan said the Parivahan Sarathi portal will initially issue learner’s licence for a week starting Wednesday, after which it will begin processing permanent driving licences. The rollout will extend to all RTOs in the Greater Hyderabad region within a month, followed by a Statewide launch across all RTOs over the next two to three months.
The minister also stressed the importance of road safety, pointing out that Telangana sees around 20 road accidents every day, many of which result in fatalities or long-term disabilities. He attributed a large share of these incidents to public negligence.
In response, the government is stepping up its road safety initiatives, including awareness campaigns in schools and colleges. Plans are underway to establish traffic awareness parks in every school across the State, he said.
As part of the event, the minister distributed driving licences and handed over 250 helmets to Agniveers and NCC cadets. The helmets were donated by ride-hailing company Rapido as part of a campaign to encourage traffic rule compliance.
