
The mangled remains of the car that crashed into a house near Pothireddypalem in Nellore district on Wednesday

Five students and a 65-year-old man were killed while another student was injured when a speeding car rammed into a house adjacent to the highway near Subbareddy petrol bunk at Pothireddypalem village in Kovur mandal of SPSR Nellore district on Wednesday.
According to the police, six students from Narayana Medical College in Nellore were returning from a function at Buchireddypalem. Their car went out of control and crashed into a house of Venkata Ramanaiah in Pothireddypalem as it climbed a hill.
Five of the six youths travelling in the car died on the spot and one injured was rushed to the hospital. Ramanaiah, who was sleeping at home was also killed in the accident. The deceased students were identified as Abhishek, Jeevan, Naresh, Abhisai and Yagnesh. Another student Navaneeth is undergoing treatment at Narayana Hospital.
Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief over the accident. “It is sad that five medical students died in the accident. My deepest condolences to the families of the deceased,” he said, assuring that the State government would stand by the affected families.
Former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy also expressed deep shock and grief over the accident. He called the loss of young, promising lives a “heartbreaking” and urged stringent road safety measures. “This tragedy shows the urgent need for accountability and prevention,” he said and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
