AP mops up GST revenue of Rs 3,560 cr

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh has demonstrated remarkable resilience and efficiency in tax collections, with April emerging as an exceptional month for revenue collection. The state mopped up ₹3,560 crore through net GST collections last month, which is the highest since the introduction of GST about eight years ago.
The state successfully reversed the downward trend observed in Nov and Dec 2024. “We achieved sustained growth in GST revenue during the first quarter of 2025, through strategic policy implementation and improved compliance measures,” chief commissioner of state taxes, Babu A, told TOI.
He said the impressive performance not only signifies effective tax administration but also reflects the positive economic momentum in the state. “The net GST collections in April represent the highest revenue since Andhra Pradesh Goods and Services Tax (APGST) Act was introduced in 2017. The IGST settlement of ₹1943 crore is also the highest revenue since 2017. This increase reflects strengthened tax compliance, improved settlement adjustments, and a broader tax base within the state. The growth in net collections is particularly significant because net revenue represents the actual revenue accrued to the state after accounting for IGST settlements and other components,” added Babu.
While gross collections reflect the total tax paid, net collections provide a more accurate indicator of the state’s fiscal health by considering the revenues available for state expenditures. The Centre deducted Rs 796 crore in IGST settlement for the month of April under the adjustment of advance apportionment to make up the shortfall in IGST balance as on March 31.
The collection of Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) has an indirect influence on the net revenues of the state. Under the IGST mechanism defined in the GST Act, the IGST paid by taxpayers within the state is transferred to other states, which impacts the state’s overall revenue share if taxpayers adjust the SGST credit against the IGST liability.
KEY MEASURES
Enhanced compliance with returns, strengthened enforcement strategies, and integration of asset details and bank accounts of defaulters to recover arrears helped boost tax collections. Real-time monitoring of collections and targeted revenue measures enhanced efficiency and accountability in tax administration
